DEFRA Confirms SFI26 Budgets – But Will It Be Enough?

Last week, ahead of Dame Angela Eagle DBE MP’s move to the Home Office, she confirmed a £240 million budget for new Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI26) agreements. This is in addition to the £560 million already committed to more than 39,000 live SFI agreements.

While the TFA welcomes this commitment, it warns that demand for the scheme is likely to be very high following the abrupt closure of the previous SFI offer. It is, therefore, essential that the Rural Payments Agency delivers a smooth and efficient application process, enabling farmers to enter the scheme without unnecessary delays.

An additional £50 million has also been allocated to Countryside Stewardship Higher Tier (CSHT) agreements during this financial year. The TFA expects the scheme to expand significantly over the coming months and encourages members to consider opportunities, where appropriate, in targeted locations of environmental value.
