Tenant farmers from across the South West are being encouraged to attend a special meeting with the Commissioner for the Tenant Farming Sector, Alan Laidlaw, at the Royal Cornwall Showground this September.

The free event will take place at The Pavilion Centre, Royal Cornwall Showground, on Monday 28 September at 7pm, offering a valuable opportunity for tenant farmers to speak directly with the Commissioner about the issues affecting their businesses and the future of the tenanted sector.

Delivered in association with DEFRA, the meeting will enable attendees to share their experiences, raise concerns and discuss the opportunities and challenges facing tenant farming across the region. It also provides a unique chance for the Commissioner to hear first-hand from those working within the sector and gather views that can help inform his work.

Alan Laidlaw, Commissioner for the Tenant Farming Sector in England, said:

“I am looking forward to visiting Cornwall at the end of September and meeting local farmers and organisations connected to the tenant farming sector. This is a brilliant opportunity for me and my office to hear about the opportunities and challenges facing the region from those whose knowledge and experience are so important in shaping a thriving rural economy in the region.”

The meeting comes at an important time for many tenant farmers who continue to face significant challenges, including rising costs, cash flow pressures and concerns around security of tenure.

TFA Chief Executive, George Dunn, said the event represents an important opportunity for farmers to ensure their voices are heard.

“With the tenanted sector of agriculture facing real pressures on cash flow, security of tenure and disputes over rent, this open evening is a fantastic opportunity for tenant farmers across the South West to put their experiences directly to the Commissioner. As well as listening to the problems, the Commissioner wants to hear examples of positive landlord and tenant relationships so attendance on the night is a must for those interested in shaping that picture.”

The TFA is encouraging members and non-members alike to attend and contribute to the discussion. Whether highlighting challenges, sharing examples of successful landlord and tenant relationships, or offering ideas for the future, those attending will have the opportunity to help shape the conversation around tenant farming in the South West.
