TFA Blog #353 – New £30 Million Wildlife-Rich Habitat Fund for Protected Landscapes

The Government has announced a new £30 million Wildlife-Rich Habitat Fund to support habitat restoration and creation across England’s protected landscapes between 2026 and 2029. The fund will provide £10 million per year, over three years and aims to restore wildlife-rich habitats in national parks and landscapes as well as across the broads as part of the Government’s wider Wild Again: Restoring England’s Wildlife programme.

The funding is intended to help reverse species decline, restore degraded habitats and contribute towards national targets for nature recovery, including commitments to protect 30% of land for nature and restore over 500,000 hectares of wildlife-rich habitat by 2042.

The scheme will be delivered through Farming in Protected Landscapes (FiPL) and sits separately from existing agricultural budgets and will not reduce funding available through other farming schemes such as SFI or Landscape Recovery.

Projects will support habitat restoration and creation, while aligning with protected landscape management plans and local nature recovery strategies. Examples of eligible activity include peatland restoration and rewetting, native woodland creation and habitat creation for priority species. It is expected that thirty-six of forty-four protected landscapes will participate within the first year.
