The Tenant Farmers Association (TFA) has submitted a response to Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs (DEFRA) in relation to the Animal Health and Welfare Pathway: Mandatory Proposals consultation.
While supportive of ambition to strengthen the health and welfare standards of the English livestock sector, the TFA has stressed the importance of DEFRA taking a phased approach to the introduction of any mandatory requirements. The TFA also warned that any new obligations must be underpinned by clear communication and accompanied by appropriate funding streams to ensure farmers are able to adapt successfully.
